Nobody knows the impact of the seeds
we plant. But we know that perseverance indicates that the seeds
planted were probably good ones for the most part. The Brethren began
as a group of guys who met in Campus Crusade for Christ meetings at U of
Oregon in the late 80's and 1990 when the band formed. Sax player
James Jones joined up after their first big gig and added a maturity to
the group, along with drummer Alfredo Pinto. Everyone else in the
band would be regarded as a baby Christian, and there was a freshness about
their music, and just being around them that was like a fresh breath of
air to me and others.

Here are the Brethren
performing on the 4th of July over Oaks Park in Portland, OR. As
night settle in, it looked more like this.
Here are some portraits
taken before that gig, which was carried out two years, and by me the following
year as I recall. The band decided to try a new drummer, then another
at the very end of their existence in 1992. Karl quit and was replaced
by James the sax player on bass. But eventually several members,
now graduating, decided it was best to call it quits. Each member
and close associate except Pinto and myself have become married.
Each one has a ministry where they are at, and the legend continues in
Christ Jesus.

the city of Springfield, and the studio in it's early stages with Doug
Oleson sitting at my keyboard talking to sound engineer Dave Dwyer.
Doug was like a piece of a puzzle that just needed to be there sometimes.
After all, who else could get massive lines of people singing "happy birthday"
to someone... OVER and OVER again throughout the day at Disneyland, when
it isn't their birthday for 3 months!!??? So many fond memories.
