Circuit Overview:
A digital synthesizer which utilizes special processing chips designed to support Yamaha's FM synthesis architecture. This is a card bay with up to 8 16 voice DX7 type TF1 modules with very stripped down interface. MIDI In/Thru on each module and xlr out. And MIDI out can be selected 1-8 on routing/PS module. MOTU and other companies have made supporting software for editing.

Service Tips:
Some power supply filter issues, and Soldered in batteries failing now. Install 2032 holder. Press lower switch sw3; holding til UT appears in display. Then press twice and 'yes (sw1)' to clear memory of edits/random data. Nice patch bank resulted in module w/dead battery..hmm. When I send dx7 banks..the A-upside down A symbol just lingers...never goes to normal. So I assume it's waiting for something else. Result? All sounds have kooky pitch glide going on. These batteries were DEAD... .1V or less. Yet this site claims no sounds reside in rom. They say: "Certain instruments, such as the Yamaha TX816 had no internal patches of their own and consequently depended on SysEx patch dumps to change their programming". Ahh apparently enough capacitance held patches on one module... i left one most of a day w/out battery and it lost it. And 'clear' did not restore. I loaded dx7 patches and though A-upside down A symbol just lingers, but you hit sw3 and you're all good.

While Yamaha normally does not keep parts around more than 5 years or so, but I stock what I can.
